Professor Deborah Starr, Director of the Jewish Studies Program at Cornell will be hosting a three part program which began on Wednesday, October 14th.
The two remaining sessions will take place on October 29th and November 11th, at 7 PM
 

Race in Israel: Mizrahim, Black Panthers, and the Struggle for Civil Rights
Description: In the early 1950s, hundreds of thousands of Jews arrived in Israel from Arab- and Islamic-majority countries. This class will explore the experiences of Mizrahi immigrants, their treatment by the Ashkenazi-dominated Israeli authorities, and their struggle for civil rights. Each session, we will watch and discuss a documentary film.

Ma’abarot were the temporary transits built to house newly arrived immigrants until permanent housing could be constructed. We will discuss the disparate experiences of immigrants in the early years of Israeli statehood.

Please note that because of the length of this film, this session is scheduled to run until 9:00 pm to leave time for discussion.
