Temple Beth El Jewish Film Festival - July Screening

Russ and Daughters Storefront

The Arts Committee of Temple Beth El invites you to its annual Jewish film festival with a series of three entertaining and uplifting films this summer. It will take place in the social hall of the temple. The line up includes: Shalom Bollywood on June 13th, The Sturgeon Queens and Bagels in the Blood on July 25th and The Band’s Visit on August 22nd. These are all Wednesday evenings. Doors open at 6:30 PM for free refreshments and socializing. The films begin at 7 PM. Tickets are $8 at the door (check or cash only). All films are appropriate for children ages 10 and above. Teens are encouraged to attend.
The Strugeon Queens - The story of the famed Lower East Side smoked fish emporium Russ & Daughters and the Jewish immigrant family who has run it for 100 years and four generations. Features interviews with the original Russ Daughters, now 92 and 100 years old, and prominent customers including Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, actor Maggie Gyllenhaal, and chef Mario Batali.
Bagels in the Blood - Nestled between shops in a residential neighborhood in French Montreal lies a quiet brownstone building—an old converted house with a wood fired oven in the back. Irwin Shlafman, third-generation owner of famous bagel shop Fairmount Bagel, shows us how it all started.
