K-12 Jewish Education

Ithaca is home to two religious schools for children in grades K through 12. IAUJC supports the schools financially so that they can offer scholarships and special programs to the students.

Roitman Chabad Center

The Roitman Chabad Center at Cornell is a direct beneficiary of funding from the IAUJC. As such, within our larger program aimed toward the Jewish student population at Cornell, Chabad has a variety of programs for the wider Ithaca Jewish community. They include Torah classes, both taught at Chabad and also at various locations around Ithaca. Chabad is also active with both childrens programs and programs for senior citizens around the Jewish holidays - dropping off menorahs, or reading the Megillah or supplying matzah and wine for Passover needs.

Our Impact on Ithaca

The Ithaca Area United Jewish Community serves as an umbrella for all the Jewish indivduals and organizations in our area. Our board helps to support local organizations by collecting funds through our annual campaigns. We then allocate these funds which have been designated for local use by their donors. The allocation process is a formal one that occurs once a year. Funds are used in many ways to the benefit of our community. In addition, IAUJC brings educational and cultural programs to town which are open to the public.

The PJ Library program is an international, Jewish storybook subscription program for children ages 6 months through 8 years old.

General Global Giving

The IAUJC is a "Network Community" of the Jewish Federation of North America. There are over 300 such groups in small Jewish communities across the country. As a Network Community, the gifts we receive from you for "General Global" are passed directly to our national JFNA colleagues. These funds are then combined with millions of other dollars and used where needed most, in any part of the world.

Senior Care in Tbilisi, Georgia (Former Soviet Union) - The Hesed Eliyahu Relief Center provides elderly Jews with food, homecare, medical care and winter relief. Last year, Hesed Eliyahu provided critical services to 1,376 individuals. For more information click here.Tblisi
