IAUJC’s 2025 Holocaust Commemoration will feature Jack Mayer, author of Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project. This award-winning book tells the story of Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker who organized a rescue network of fellow social workers to save 2,500 children from death in the Warsaw ghetto. The book also chronicles the group of high school teens from rural Kansas who stumbled upon a reference to Sendler’s rescues and turned it into a play called Life in a Jar. The play was first seen in Kansas and then spread across the United States and finally to Poland, where it elevated Sendler into a national hero.
Registration is required at this link to attend the event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, at Temple Beth-El.
